Having fun working at Optify
We were honored last night to have nine members of the Optify team at a Seattle Business dinner honoring the Top 100 Companies to Work For in the state of Washington. We pride ourselves in being an energetic, empowered workplace. I personally think a lot about providing professional development opportunities for every employee at the company. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it’s also great for the business because team members are so much more engaged when they are learning and expanding their professional knowledge.
I must say that the keynote speaker, Pete Carroll, was a little flat. I do respect his coaching and the record he amassed at USC. You can see in the photo below how thrilled our own Jen Wong and Jeff Gibb are to have his book! (blog sarcasm) The highlight of the evening, aside from being in the top 100, was just some good fun and cocktails with the team for the first hour.
I had to chuckle at one episode of the evening. I was in line getting drinks for a number of folks including our Central European duo of Marko (Germany) and Elisabeth (Austria). When I asked them what beer they wanted, they both replied Corona. I frowned, “Really, a Corona?” Needless to say, after a few minutes of hemming and hawing, all three of us had a Stella.
I don’t fancy myself an expert at many things, but let’s just say I have put in the effort to discuss European beers with fairly intimate experience. Stella is far from the best, but it sure beats Corona most days of the year, especially for folks that grew up in the birthplace of beer! And if we’re talking Mexican beers, for my money let’s sit down and have a long talk over a couple Negra Modelos. But that’s just me, Mr. Vegas.
